Kamran Darbe Mehr

Dear friends,

Today, ZAMWI members have no set place to congregate. A property was purchased by the Guiv Foundation on Hunter Mill Road in the early 1990s for the purpose of constructing a Darbe Mehr. Although offered a lease on this property, the ZAMWI Board of Directors declined it given the prohibitive expense of constructing the Darbe Mehr and the limited funds of the community. As a result, community gatherings for major celebrations have been held at hotels, other church halls, community centers, parks, and other affordable rental sites, and have been paid for through event fees and donations. Avesta Classes have been held at the Tilden Elementary School in Bethesda, and the rental of this school has been paid for in part by the Avesta Class parents and through donations from other members.

Located in Boyds, MD, approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Washington, D.C., the Kamran Darbe Mehr is presently under construction. When completed, the Darbe Mehr will be a 2-story, 10,000 square-foot building, situated on approximately 5 acres of land. The Darbe Mehr will include 4 classrooms, a prayer room with an occupancy limit of 80 individuals, a main hall with an occupancy limit of 200 individuals, and a warming kitchen.

Mr. Khodamorad Kamran has been the architect, builder and financial sponsor of this project. He purchased the land in early 2008, received all necessary permits from the town of Boyds and Montgomery County in late 2010, and began construction of the Kamran Darbe Mehr in January 2011. As of September 2011, the construction of the foundation, concrete floor, and outside walls, doors and windows of the Darbe Mehr has been completed. Electrical, plumbing, mechanical, internal construction and other site work are currently in progress. The expected opening date of the Kamran Darbe Mehr is the latter half of 2012.
