ZAMWI Avesta Classes

ZAMWI's Children's Avesta Classes are held on the first and third Sunday of each month. Currently we have seven sections ranging from one year old to 17. The two youngest groups are composed primarily of younger siblings of current students, but all are welcome. This youngest sections are led by parent volunteers.

The primary function of these classes are for the children to get together, play together, learn together, and generally have fun together, thereby forging bonds which, hopefully, will last to adulthood and beyond. Observing the groups over the past nine years, we can honestly say that a more wonderful group of children who look out for each other would be hard to find; when they're together it's a truly heartwarming sight to behold.

We start the "academic year" on the third Sunday in September (the first Sunday being Labor Day Weekend) and go until June. On the first Sunday of every month, our Ervad Behram Panthaki leads the group in prayers followed by a short lesson. We then break up into our smaller groups headed by parent volunteers. Most of the teaching is done on a unit basis, so if a child misses one class, he/she can catch up on the next go-around. There is quite a bit of review, hands-on learning, and repetition so no child feels left out or left behind. The children get some free time to play together, after which we eat gahambar style.

Apart from academic instruction, students participate in many of ZAMWI's events and celebrations: Meherghan, Yalda, Sadeh, Norooz and Tirgan. There is also an annual Sports Day, Bowling Party, and Bike ride.

In addition to these events, parents and others from the community can enjoy participating in adult discussion groups which take place on the first Sunday of the month.

We are always excited about welcoming young ones to these classes; please feel free to contact rubinajp@aol.com or mfaidun@cox.net for more information.
